Wynn & Thayne was born out of the notion to deliver vintage and pre-owned timepieces for first watch buyers and budding collectors. Their mission is to place the best watches on your wrist through a bespoke watch purchasing service filled with satisfaction, authenticity and quality. Based in Auckland and located purely online for now, customers can browse and shop their curated catalog of Rolex, Omega, Tissot and Longines.
Founder, Zayyar Win Thein realised there was a gap in the market for a customer centric model and wanted to bring his knowledge and passion to the industry. “Personally I found it a struggle to purchase quality vintage or second hand watches here in New Zealand. I was either overpaying by a large sum or I was having to deal with pawnbrokers or TradeMe sellers. I thought to myself why isn’t there a better option in the market that serves watch buyers? I definitely want more people in my demographic to love and appreciate watches as much as I do and create an open environment for purchasing, sharing and communication. It shouldn’t matter if you spend $500 or $15,000, what matters is that you appreciate what you purchase.”
If you’re looking for something in particular, Wynn & Thayne also offer a brokering service. They will aim to source and acquire you the watch for a competitive price in return for a small commission. The best part? They throw in a try-on policy so you can ensure it fits your taste and collection just right.
While watches may seem like a niche market luxury auction house Sotheby’s reported in December 2020 that its global auction sales of watches had reached $97.5 million last year, with more than 140 online sales totaling $47.4 million.
