Auckland’s premier destination for interior design and architectural product discovery.
For the past 27 years, the Auckland Home Ideas Centre has been a familiar name. Recently, however, it has emerged with a fresh identity and renewed vigour. Following an extensive year-long renovation, the Parnell showroom has reopened its doors renamed as Residium – a vibrant nexus where architects, designers, and homeowners can explore the latest trends and innovations in the design and building industry.
Residium’s launch signifies more than a change of name; it marks a fundamental shift in approach – a forward-thinking adaptation to the changing demands of the design and construction sectors. The focus has transitioned to welcoming a design-conscious audience, eager to find, touch, feel, see, and experience an inspiring range of products and materials.
“As online resources are often the starting point for planning a construction or renovation project, we saw the need to redefine our position within the industry,” says director Hugh McKellar. “Our exhibitors, brands, and visitors all expressed a strong desire for a venue where they could physically interact with the products, refine their choices, and be introduced to new concepts, confirm the details of what they’ve seen online, and engage directly with the brands.”
Embracing this new direction, Residium offers a tactile experience, allowing visitors – whether homeowners or trade professionals – to explore curated showrooms featuring premium products from Australasia’s leading suppliers in architecture, interior, and outdoor design. Hugh notes, “Many visitors were uncertain about the details of products they saw online – whether they were available in our market, or what their size, colour, or texture was like in reality. It’s crucial to have the opportunity to validate these aspects through touch and feel before making a decision. This immersive, physical interaction with products is something that online platforms cannot replicate.”
Auckland’s premier destination for interior design and architectural product discovery. Far beyond a conventional showroom, Residium is a fresh and invigorated epicentre for interior design and architectural inspiration.
With exhibitors covering all key design categories – kitchen, bathroom, hardware, cladding, hard materials, lighting, landscape and more – Residium provides everything needed to embark on a building project. The showcased architectural products aren’t the cash and carry kind; they are either available through made-to-order services, fabricators, or online ordering. Take-home samples and swatches, digital ordering options, and expert guidance from brand representatives enhances the exploration process.
Residium’s novel approach has also seen a shift away from the exclusivity often associated with showrooms. Residium’s doors swing open for everyone – from first-time renovators to seasoned architects, creating an inclusive atmosphere where needs are met regardless of one’s experience in the world of design and renovation. The addition of free parking and good coffee on offer is a bonus!
“Residium is not just a place for making selections; it’s a platform for discussing projects, exploring new products, and where creativity, collaboration, and shared inspiration can thrive,” says Hugh.
The commitment to education and collaboration is further demonstrated in Residium’s 100-seat conference centre and 12-seat boardroom, hosting events, workshops, and talks for industry professionals and the broader community, while also championing their exhibitors.
Residium is open 7 days a week.
