The thing I love about being a doula is that I get to meet so many awesome people. I feel so fortunate to be invited into anyone’s birthing space, to share in their journey.
Knowledge is power, and I am seeing birthing people educate themselves, investing in our future generations. Birth is such a unique experience for everyone. Birth has no rules. We all have moments in our lives when we feel overwhelmed and in need of more support. Birth is no exception!
Think of me as your labour coach. Preparing you during pregnancy and working with you for one of the most significant events of your life. Offering you personalised one-on-one attention. I have such a unique role. It’s such a vulnerable time, and it’s vital to have a birth team around you that aligns with your birth preference – someone who maintains a calm and relaxed birthing atmosphere.
You should feel empowered. You should feel respected. You should feel heard. There is no room for fear and anxiety in your birth space.
It always amazes me how incredible our bodies are, the inner strength and courage and determination that I see. The sheer power of bringing a baby earth-side. It is a beautiful, sacred thing to witness, and lights me up. Being a doula has brought so many gifts into my life. I can’t imagine not being a doula. There is an intense level of connection. Each client teaches me something new.
Research studies have shown that when women have continuous support from a doula, they have fewer complications and are more satisfied with their birth overall, so why wouldn’t you want that?
We work with your care provider, are self-employed and work for you. We all have our own unique qualities. There is a doula for everybody. I’m an Auckland birth and postpartum doula: a birth trauma, loss, and miscarriage practitioner.
