Far, far away – Chevron Hassett

On Until 10 June

Far, far away by Chevron Hassett is now open at Artspace

In this exhibition Hassett responds to the heritage of the Artspace building as a Post Office. Gathering contrasting encounters from daily life together and etching into them, the artist conjures an autobiography that emerges specifically from an experience of urban Indigeneity. Here, the sense of a letter sent somewhere, weaves lines through time and connection, through Maui, Rauponga Whakarare, and Rauponga Haehae (genealogical patterning also present in Ngati Porou carvings) to evolve a project of cultivation.

An epoch in stone – Emme Orbach

On until 24 June

Emme Orbach Courtesy of RM Gallery

An epoch in stone explores the history of local minerals and stones, from geological creation through to industrialisation. Emme Orbach investigates elements and resources native to Aotearoa from research collected in 2022-23 from site visits across the North Island. The exhibition explores themes of impermanence and the passage of time. The artist is curious about the awe-inspiring yet existential predicament of comprehending nature that surpasses the human lifetime – of minerals that span thousands of years in creation.
