The Art of July
Curated by— Aimée Ralfini
Much activity in the visual arts sector this month, including a new gallery on the block! Bergman Gallery from Rarotonga has opened a branch in Auckland’s Art District of Karangahape Road, well worth a visit to welcome the new space and check out its opening exhibition featuring the stunning work of Telly Tuita, amongst others.
While June’s poetry whispers of hardened dry leaves and rain-stripped stone from a scented damp earth of broken bough, the galleries are saying quite the opposite. Colour and substance are on the menu in Tāmaki Makaurau this month.
May rolls in and offers us a plethora of visual delights. This month’s curatorial pick must be Studio One Toi Tū, the artist hub at the Karangahape Road end of Ponsonby Road, which just keeps delivering exciting bodies of fresh work from emerging artists.
As autumn dances ever closer, we farewell our long summer days one twilight sky at a time. A different kind of jewel catches the light this time of year, and the galleries have them on display in abundance.
It’s that time of year when the humidity is so thick, the air barely moves, yet the art world is positivity bubbling with creative activity! My advice? Get amongst it! Here are my suggestions for your Art of March.
