One way to refresh your look – and how you feel – is by switching up hairstyles and trying something new. It doesn’t have to be extreme, nor does it have to look like much has changed, but a new cut, new fringe or styling trick can make you feel like a brand new person.
According to Chetan Mongia (owner of Laboratorie), “getting a really good haircut – even if it’s just twice a year – is key for creating a modern shape, which can be dressed up or down, depending on your mood. Investing in a haircut above just styling products gives hair shape – whether it’s a bob or longer – and allows you the structure and architecture to do lots of things with your hair,” he explains. “A few years ago, people were just styling hair and not thinking about the haircut underneath it.” It’s a way of approaching your hair that allows you to embrace all manner of trends, from embracing your natural curls to air drying your layers, and gives your hairstyle its unique character or that personalized look.
The Bob
A timeless hairstyle, the bob is going nowhere. We have never seen so many requests for this classic style. “The Alexa-style bob remains at the forefront, but there are so many new variations – changes in length, shape, volume and styling. I personally avoid layering bob too much because I believe it detracts from what the haircut is by definition, and that’s a style that is all one length. Longer or shorter, it’s a timeless cut, especially when worn with natural hair texture. The latest style comes in the form of an effortless curly bob on Zendaya, a blunt-cut style, wearing it with bounteous natural texture and an undone finis,” says Chetan. The perfect wash-and-go hair.
Bottle Neck Fringe
Bottleneck bangs are a must-have look for the season, and one that can completely transform a look without removing too much length. Ask your hairdresser to cut a full bang, keeping the lengths long to the side. Adding heavy layers to the center keeps the look soft and wearable for the summer. Style them soft with plenty of movement. They suit the natural texture the best.
Blowout
For a while now, we’ve favoured hairstyles which appear artfully undone, low maintenance and effortless, but are seeing a return to the old-school blow-dry and a more finessed approach to the hair. Full bodied, glossy, glam, sexy hair is making a comeback.
High definition curls
From Chetan’s recent trip to Australian Fashion week and while working backstage, he saw that “embracing your natural curls has never been more on trend. Both in editorials and on the catwalk, models are embracing their corkscrew curls for a lively, fresh look.”
The Shag
Ah, love the classic shag—babely, bouncy, beautiful. This ’70s-inspired crop has been making the rounds again and honestly, it looks great. It’s so dreamy, voluminous bangs, perfectly blended face framing, and endless layers through this look.
Mixie
The mixie is the combination of a mullet and a pixie haircut. A mixie is an edgy haircut that is longer in the back, like a mullet, and shorter in the front, like a pixie. This cut has a 70s feel with the shape of the bangs upfront and the length in the back. It gives an edgier feel to short hair. Love it!!
