September is one of the most exciting months for gardeners, with new life emerging after a cold winter, and plenty to do in the garden. The days are getting warmer and longer once again, making it the perfect time for planting.
Veggies
Start preparing your garden beds for spring veggie planting! Improve your soil by adding compost, sheep pellets and organic fertiliser to help your veggies grow well. The top veggie seedlings to plant in spring include beans, carrots, lettuce, peas, potatoes and tomatoes.
Flowers
September is bee awareness month! Bees require a plentiful food source to survive, and more flowers mean more bees. Bees help with the pollination of veggie crops, and September is a great time to plant bee-friendly flowers. Some of our favourite bee attractants include lavender, alyssum and cosmos.
Fruit
Now is the perfect time to grow berries! Plant strawberries now for a Christmas harvest. Strawberries grow well when planted in containers, in the garden, and look great when planted in hanging baskets. Plant blueberry bushes now to enjoy delicious berries year after year.
Indoor Plants
Like most plants in spring, indoor plants are waking up. Take note of how fast water is being absorbed and adjust watering accordingly. Snip off any old, browning leaves that may have appeared during winter. If your indoor plants have been stretching towards the light, turn them slightly each week to correct the lean.
