Son Serra

A relaxed, one-bedroom hideaway in a chill surf town.

The house has a timeless presence: strong, still and silent, inviting you to slow right down and tune in to the pace of this ancient island.

Cacti, weather-stunted pine trees and olives dominate the garden, all typical of Mallorca and her native Mediterranean flora.

A line of lights strung diagonally across the outdoor dining space creates a simple festive area after dark.

There are no painted, varnished or plastered surfaces in the home, just natural wood and marés sandstone.

Marés is a beautiful sandstone. A pale, pinkish-beige, it is rich in texture, pocked with faultiness, holes and crevices.

Without a television, or an excess of entertainment, the space invites you to slow down. You can’t help but notice the spotted light filtering through the shutters as it moves across the interior through the day.

The interior textiles, including the  bedding and curtains that cover the windows and doors, and interior and exterior openings, are all made from linen or cotton in white, beige or blush.
