Month by month with many miles under our feet we scour the city constantly on the lookout for great coffee, home baking and friendly staff. Once in a while we come across something special more often than not by accident.
Tucked discreetly into Great South Road’s landscape is probably one of Remmers best kept secrets. This easy to miss quaint little cosy cottage with its charming gardens has for many years attracted a local clientele. Call it a meeting of the minds between Pranee and Hanna the two experienced owners. Their much-imitated but rarely matched menu is simple and oozes with plenty of energy, flair and passion.
A keenly priced blackboard breakfast and lunch menu boasts generosity aplenty in flavours and portions with everything expected of a suburban café. The breakfast bill of fare is a refreshing combination of omelettes, pancakes, french toast, eggs benedict, mince on toast and their Dreamers special ($19.50) bacon, sausage, eggs, hash brown, tomato. Similarly their lunch menu will not disappoint. Apart from the traditional sandwiches, panini rolls, muffins, cakes, nachos, pies and savouries there is also some South-East-Asian influences as green chicken curry, chicken satay, teriyaki chicken and Thai salad. Each are served with rice, tomato, avocado and green salad
And the verdict? The perfect breakfast spot and a great venue for a casual lunch make this a place to go back to time and again. And what a difference good service makes, warm and friendly without missing a beat. Go and see for yourself, it’s a good excuse for great coffee and a homemade scone.
