This spring, in collaboration with Cooke’s restaurant, M Gallery, The Hotel Grand Windsor announces the launch of Vari-Tea High Tea. It’s an elegant five-star boutique hotel setting in the heart of Auckland on Lower Queen Street.
Vari-Tea brilliantly combines the classic English pursuits of afternoon tea and cake with a charming slice of history.
Cooke’s restaurant is inspired by such British heritage and Auckland tradition, conceived in 1928 so that guests may take some time out to enjoy some afternoon tea.
“Though influenced by yesteryear, this is a modern take on the afternoon tea concept, with food served on granite plates rather that circular tiers,” says executive chef Jinu Abraham. “I’m excited to be part of the next stage of this boutique offering.”
The elegant eatery had a makeover in 2017 and now offers a choice of 15 loose-leaf teas served in fine bone china from the exclusive T2 Tealeidoscope Signature Range. Continuing with tradition, Cooke’s provides sweet treats such as buttermilk scones with strawberry and rose preserve; and dainties like elderflower profiterole and marzipan cupcakes with citrus and sour cream. Savoury selections include chicken and walnut, ham and cheese, or classic egg mayo sandwiches.
Also available is Mumm Cordon Rouge champagne or Huia Blanc de Blanc sparkling wine to add some fizz to the afternoon tea.
