Verve talks to Laura James from Social Light.
What does well considered lighting do for a space?
Imagine stepping into a room where every corner is bathed in a warm, inviting glow. With carefully planned lighting, you can create the perfect ambience for any occasion, like cosying up with a good book, hosting a dinner party, or simply unwinding after a long day. By designing a lighting plan, we ensure that the lighting is balanced and will create the desired effect.
At what stage would you recommend you’re contacted when doing home alterations?
The earlier the better. Planning is key with any renovations, and lighting is no different. Often, it’s an afterthought, which can be limiting. Working with what you have and planning for any improvements will be much more achievable and affordable with a well-considered lighting plan.
Does lighting affect mood?
Significantly! Bright, natural light can uplift our spirits, enhance alertness, and promote a sense of wellbeing. In contrast, dim or harsh lighting can induce feelings of fatigue, stress, and even sadness. Thus, the choice of lighting is a powerful tool for creating the desired.
What is the different between yellow light and white light?
Colour temperature plays a crucial role, and they both have their place – depending on the space and its use. Cooler tones (‘white light’) are like daylight, mimicking a more energetic atmosphere, while warmer hues (‘yellow light’) create a cosy and relaxed ambiance.
Your L.I.M. Linear LED Pendants are stunning. Are these made to order?
Yes, all our brass and aluminium is milled, polished, and powdercoated in the Waikato, then assembled in our Cambridge showroom. We love that they’re simple and timeless and look great in any setting. We do have standard lengths and finishes, but regularly do made-to-order ones also.
