There’s a lot on the horizon for Atopis, a skincare brand which uses biotechnology science combined with nature’s bioactives to produce healthy glowing natural skin that doesn’t need to be covered up by makeup.

Can you tell us what led you to launch your own skincare company?
I worked for many years in biomedical research on programmed cell death (apoptosis) and immunology, and developed an oral eczema pharmaceutical treatment. Other skincare products on the market sounded good, but scientifically, they did not solve the problems they claimed to; things like anti-ageing, acne issues, reducing eczema flare-ups and rosacea. The science was not there for most of the products on the market.
And the skincare options on the market weren’t sustainable skin solutions. Acne creams, containing alcohol and antibiotics, and eczema creams containing steroids, in particular, would simply trap people in a cycle of dependency, without healing or restoring the underlying issues at a microbial level. I knew this wasn’t right and knew I could provide a solution that would work.
I had also been involved in the development of several other natural treatment products including Phloe and IBSacol for gut health and saw a direct link between gut and skin health, which was fascinating. All the natural creams I researched were about avoiding nasties (like parabens and synthetics) but weren’t effective at restoring skin.

How has your background in cellular science and plant science research helped shape your vision for Atopis?
My science background combines biomedical science with plant and microbial research. This has enabled me to develop effective globally patented skincare solutions from nature for biomedical applications.

If you could recommend one thing to our readers for their beauty routines, what would it be?
If I could go back in time I would use far more sunscreen. UV is the number one cause of skin ageing.
Other than professional beauty services and/or application of products, are there any lifestyle aspects that you consider integral to your beauty regime?
Good nutrition, sleep, stress management, exercise and social interaction all help support healthy skin. But most importantly, just relax, and don’t get stressed trying to be perfect. I love that I no longer need any clinical beauty treatments as Atopis has given me healthy skin.
