About Dove Hospice
Dove Hospice is a registered stand-alone charitable trust providing a leading-edge service and is situated within the grounds of St Andrews Village in Glendowie, Auckland.
We specialise in care that enhances holistic well-being from the time of diagnosis of life-threatening illness. This includes palliative care, which is the total care of patients whose illness is no longer curable and for whom the goal is quality of life, and for those who a cure or remission is expected and for whom the goal is returning to wellness.
Our services are available to anyone over the age of eighteen years who has been diagnosed with life-threatening illness. Care is provided for patients with cancer, neurological illness, heart disease, respiratory disease, HIV/AIDS and others. The Dove Model of care is based on Te Whare Tapa Wha which places emphasis on all four corners of wellbeing. This support is delivered by a multi-professional team and is extended to family/whanau/carers of patients and the bereaved in our community.
Our out-patient day facility is in a beautiful garden setting and is often referred to as “my second home”, where patients and their families can feel at ease in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. Dove Wing the in-patient facility is operated out of St Andrews Village and provides quality end-of-life and respite care.
The patient and family are at the centre of everything we do; the person – not the illness – is the focus of our care. We aim to embrace and companion people with warmth, understanding and friendship whilst offering guidance and support during difficult times.
Our services are available at no cost to the service-user. However, they are not ‘free’ and we receive no direct government funding. 100% of our running costs are raised from our six Auckland based retail stores selling a wide range of quality, pre-loved goods donated to us by our community. We are also supported throughout our organisation by a committed, passionate volunteers and staff.
Dove has gone online!
Recently Covid-19 resulted in the closure of all of our stores and the loss of all our revenue. This event accelerated our plans to launch our vibrant, new Dove Online Shop. You can visit us now at dovehospice.com. Rather than rely solely on foot traffic into our stores, this virtual shop allows Dove to showcase in excess of 1,000 quality, pre-loved and new products to a national and international audience at very affordable prices.
Confidence in the future
The last six weeks have been an unprecedented and challenging time for Dove.
At times like this we believe it’s important to reflect on why decades of passionate volunteers and staff and tens of thousands of supportive customers and product donors have given so generously of their time, skills, money and goods to create what Dove is today.
Despite the immense challenges Covid-19 has delivered, Dove Hospice is focussed positively on the future and serving an even wider community, than it does now.
