Box Office: September 2022

Verve’s film picks for the month of September.

LANCASTER

1 September

Lancaster tells of the iconic WW2 bomber through the testimonies of surviving crew members who share stories of courage, fear, friendship, and moral ambiguity. The ‘Lanc’ was designed to take the war to – and defeat – the Nazis, but there was a terrible price: the deaths of 55,000 aircrew and 600,000 civilians.

Directed by David Fairhead and Anthony Palmer.

WE ARE STILL HERE

Coming Soon

Through the eyes of eight protagonists, We Are Still Here traverses 1,000 years from past, present, and future to explore stories of kinship, loss, grief, and resilience. But ultimately, it shows the strength of love and hope to overcome shared adversity that Indigenous people from Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific continue to face. We Are Still Here is a joint initiative between Screen Australia’s Indigenous Department and the NZ Film Commission, an opportunity for Indigenous filmmakers to tell anthology stories about colonisation of native peoples throughout the Pacific.

Multiple directors include Chantelle Burgoyne, Mario Gaoa and Beck Cole.

TICKET TO PARADISE

15 September

Julia Roberts and George Clooney are back together on the big screen in Ticket to Paradise. It’s hard to believe that Roberts hasn’t been in a romantic comedy in over two decades and we’re glad to see her back at it. The duo has a long history of working together, dating back to Ocean’s Eleven (2001) and the sequel Ocean’s Twelve (2004), along with Money Monster(2016). This time around they’re playing a divorced couple going to great lengths to keep their daughter from making the same mistakes they did, only it doesn’t go quite as planned.

Directed by Ol Parker.
