Occupied France, 1942. Gilles is arrested by SS soldiers and sent to a camp in Germany where he narrowly avoids sudden execution by swearing to the guards that he’s not Jewish, but Persian. Instead, he’s assigned a life-or-death mission: to teach Farsi to head of camp Koch, who dreams of later opening a restaurant in Iran. Ingeniously, Gilles survives by inventing Farsi words. The relationship between the two men sparks jealousy in other prisoners and SS guards towards Gilles. And while the suspicions of Koch grow, Gilles knows he won’t be able to keep his secret very long…
