With summer around the corner, those with sensitive skin need to be prepared with solutions to safely protect themselves from New Zealand’s harmful UV rays.
Sensitive skincare specialists at Avène Dermatological Laboratories have poured their knowledge and expertise into producing high quality sun protection that offers efficacy and skin tolerance for even the most sensitive skin.
An Avène expert explains.
What are Avène’s four new Sun Care products?
This summer, we are excited to launch our Avène Face Emulsion, Avène Face Lotion, Avène Face and Body Spray and Avène Face and Body Lotion for children. Each of these products is SPF50+ with UVA and UVB protection, and are all alcohol and paraben free.
What makes Avène’s Sun Care range stand out?
At Eau Thermale Avène, we believe in finding the right balance between effectiveness, safety and tolerance for those with sensitive skin. To achieve this, all of our Sun Care products are evaluated under dermatological, ophthalmological, and paediatric control to guarantee optimal skin tolerance for all ages.
We have taken extreme care to design a paraben-free, alcohol-free formula that offers maximum protection with a minimum quantity of filters.
As a result, our Sun Care range is trusted by dermatologists around the world and stands out for tolerance and efficacy, making them especially good for those with sensitive skin.
What should you do if you get sunburnt?
The first step to protecting yourself from sunburn is to apply sufficient sunscreen. However if you do find yourself with reddening skin, you should react immediately.
The first step is to seek shelter from the sun, preferably indoors as your skin is never completely protected from UV rays when you are in the shade.
Next, begin to refresh and relieve your sunburn by cooling the affected areas. Soak paper tissues with Avène Thermal Spring Water Spray, apply to the affected area and leave on for 15 minutes. It is best to avoid extreme cold after you have been sunburnt, especially if you have cardiovascular weakness. Our best advice is to store your Avène Thermal Spring Water Spray in the refrigerator to enhance the cooling effect and spray it several times a day to soothe the skin.
Another tip is to drink a lot. Your skin needs a lot of water to regenerate itself after getting sunburnt. Water, iced tea and fruit juice are all great options!
Continue to moisturise and soothe the red/burnt area. Avène Cicalfate Restorative cream cools and soothes the skin, while hydrating it intensely. The feeling of tightness decreases as the skin cells repair themselves.
Note: If you have a severe burn with blisters, seek medical treatment.
