Studio One Toi Tū

Thursday 17 – Sunday 20 February, 10:30AM,
Ellen Melville Centre

https://aucklandpride.org.nz/shows/samesame-but-different-literary-festival/#schedule

Samesame but Different is the only festival of its kind in Aotearoa that provides a space to uphold queer literature and authors. The festival celebrates this important artform through capturing queer histories and encouraging the next generation of queer writers. The very first Samesame but Different festival in 2016 saw Peter Wells provide a space for LGBTQI+ writers and readers to come together in a unique way. 2020 was the first festival without Peter, however his legacy continues.

Samesame but Different invites you to join in: read your own poetry at the speakeasy, or make zines. Get to experience new play readings, a book launch and new book celebrations. Get inspired by new writing and try writing outside the lines, reflect on who the LGBTQI+ community are, who they write for and where they come from.

Fiona Clark: Unafraid

Sunday 20 Feb, 2:00pm,
Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki

https://aucklandpride.org.nz/shows/fiona-clark-unafraid/

Fiona Clark is one of Aotearoa’s most notable photographers but, thanks to the repressive environment of 1970s’ New Zealand, her career was almost stubbed out before it began. Four decades later, Fiona Clark: Unafraid recounts how the photographer overcame censorship, homophobia, sexism and debilitating physical injuries to become one of our most respected social documentarians. Through a series of candid interviews, the documentary paints a picture of the artist as an eclectic, staunchly independent force of nature.

Following the screening of Fiona Clark: Unafraid, by director/filmmaker Lula Cucchiara there will be an invigorating conversation between friends Fiona Clark and Ron Brownson, Senior Curator of New Zealand Art at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki.
