Air pollution has been recorded as the primary cause of over one million deaths last year in China alone. We sat down with Cherie Chen, General manager of Healthy Breath Ltd, an innovative Kiwi Start up who look to tackle this problem head on.
Tell us a little bit about your role within the business?
My role within MEO Air is to oversee daily operations in the organisation, implement a strategy plan to grow the business, develop a robust business process to meet key objectives, coordinate the development of performance goals for functional managers in the business unit, evaluate and decide upon key investments in equipment, infrastructure and talent, as well as report key results to the board of directors.
What have your key moments or accomplishments been with MEO so far within your role?
I am pleased to see us go from literally an idea to a full commercial product, and subsequently mass production, shipping into global markets in less than a year. This was only achieved because of the 100% commitment and focus of our team.
Tell us the importance behind the brand and mask being NZ made?
The essential ingredient of our product, the wool filter, will always come from sheep bred in the mountains of Wanaka. The fact that a product which provides protection against air pollution comes from the home of pure is a great brand story.
What is on the horizon for MEO? any new developments you can share?
We have a MEO kids mask lined up for release this year, as well as other exciting consumer products utilising our core NZ wool filtration technology. In terms of markets, we are in the midst of exciting discussions with distributors from China, India and South East Asia. Demand is strong, we just have to work on scaling up production, and getting amazing products into the hands of customers in a timely manner.
What advice can you share with young, female leaders in business today?
Keep challenging yourself and never stop learning, treat life like one long university education, where you can learn more every day.
