Introducing Cocohills

Remuera’s new go-to destination for good taste, good design and pre-loved, high quality furniture.

Opulent leather, luxurious linen and plush velvet sofas sit side by side exquisite armchairs, feather trimmed lamps and rustic benches on the stylish floors of Cocohills. Around every corner there are more gems to discover — it’s a little like a grown up’s treasure trove.cocohills2

Founded by Heather Walker who is also known as The GoToGirl, Cocohills sits on Remuera Road, just down from the village. Disillusioned with the corporate world, the mother of three (Max is 14 and the twins, Eva and Theo, are 10) Heather found herself looking for a change of career that encompassed her passion. “I asked myself ‘what do I love?’” she says.

Having grown up with a property developer father and a mother who had an antique business, Heather had a love of good design. She’d previously done well selling for friends and family on Trademe. Many of Heathers friends were after good quality designer pieces, but didn’t know how to go about finding them, let alone have the time to do so, and asked her to hunt them down for them in her travels. Many of Heathers contacts also had quality furniture pieces to sell but didn’t want to use the usual channels available, so approached her to find a buyer for them. A gap in the market was evident so being the opportunist that she is, Heather set about developing it further. “I loved the chase of it, the sales side of things and making people happy.”

Word of mouth spread; when one person told someone else, who told someone else, who told someone else, Heather quickly became known as The GoToGirl. Fairly soon she was gaining access to amazing showroom samples and end of line furniture pieces and more and more people were asking her to sell on behalf. In need of more space she signed up for the store and Cocohills was born.

Cocohills reflects quality with a fun edge, without being over the top. “I sell on behalf of customers from all over Auckland and I add new pieces, end of lines and samples to the mix. I only stock good quality items in great condition, but I am a secondhand store, so my prices reflect that.”

Right now Cocohills is overflowing with stock. There’s a stunning brown leather lounge suite from Cavit & Co, a brand new velvet Chesterfield, beautiful linen sofas, side tables straight from Paris, newly upholstered wingback chairs and a wonderful Andrew Martin Rochester sofa awaiting collection by its ecstatic new owner.

Not everything bears a hefty price tag; a printed hessian ottoman makes a striking statement at $75 and affordable artworks, rugs and cushions are scattered around the room.

The pieces sell very quickly, so people need to keep an eye out or add their name to Heathers growing ‘customer wishlist’. Indeed, Cocohills is rapidly evolving as a ‘go to’ destination for interior designers and homeowners alike, and has cemented Heather’s place as the GoToGirl for quality finds at great prices. “I feel right at home in my new career — this is what I love,” she says.
