Delicious Chocolate Beauty Recipes you have to try!

To celebrate The Chocolate Bar’s Ponsonby Pop-up this week, here at Verve we’ve been looking at some alternative ways to indulge in chocolatey goodness, with these yummy chocolate skincare recipes! Did you know that chocolate helps promote brighter, smoother and fresher skin?

Find out how with these at-home recipes.

CHOCOLATE FACE MASK

As the seasons change, our skin can easily become dehydrated and rough. For rejuvenated and silky smooth skin, this easy face mask recipe works wonders.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • 1 Tablespoon of Melted Chocolate – (the higher the % of cocoa the better)
  • 1 Teaspoon of Almond Oil (available from your local pharmacy, health store or countdown supermarkets)
  • 1 Teaspoon of Rosehip Oil (Essano & Trilogy are our favourite brands)

METHOD:

Mix ingredients together until well combined. When the mixture is lukewarm and comfortable to touch, apply to face. Leave for 20 minutes before rinsing off. Try this face mask once a week for best results.

CHOCOLATE SCRUB

To help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and get rid of any dry patches, try this thick and creamy chocolate scrub. The delicious smell is also a great serotonin booster, making this the perfect home treatment for those days you may need a pick-me-up.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • 1/3 cup cocoa
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream, or sour cream
  • 3 tablespoons oats

METHOD:

Using a food processor or just a mixing bowl, mix all the ingredients until well combined and the oats become finer in texture. Apply to your face with your fingers and gently massage away all your stress and dry skin! Put your feet up, have a cup of tea and leave the mix on your skin for 15-20 minutes. Then rinse with lukewarm water for noticeably smoother and fresher skin.

CHOCOLATE CLEANSER

For the perfect cleanser to get into the pores and clean away any makeup or dirt, try this delicious combination of chocolate and peppermint. This mix is also great as an all-over body wash to keep in the shower.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • ½ a cup of brown sugar
  • ½ cup of white sugar
  • ⅓ cup of olive or almond oil
  • 2 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 10 drops of peppermint essential oil

METHOD:

Add both sugars and cocoa powder together and mix well. Add the olive/almond oil and the peppermint oil and combine and mix again. Store in a container.

This cleanser works best when you skin is wet so use it either in the morning when you wash your face or in the shower. It’s perfect for rough elbows or dry skin and also works well to remove makeup. Make sure you rinse well and apply your favourite moisturiser after application.
