5 DIY Skincare Recipes

We all want flawless skin and to age gracefully, but let’s face it, stocking up on skincare products can leave a gaping hole in your wallet. We let you in on some inexpensive, easy and effective DIY recipes you can make at home to clear up your skin for half the price!

Yoghurt & Lemon

Did you know that lemon juice has been used for years to whiten skin? Not only does it have the power to help even out skin complexion, it can also help to remove acne, blackheads and any dark spots. It’s also a great way to get rid of freckles! For your own lemon face mask, simply mix lemon juice and greek yoghurt together in a small bowl. Apply generously to your face and leave on for 15-30 minutes. The acid in the lemon juice can cause a tingling feeling, so if you have sensitive skin, we recommend using less lemon to avoid any irritation. Try this mask every couple of days for a few weeks, and you’re sure to have softer and lighter skin.

 

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is a great natural substitute for many beauty products. Not only does it work well as a makeup remover, it can also be used as an all over body moisturiser or as a leave-in hair mask for dry or colour-treated hair. Purchase from the supermarket in a tub and use a teaspoon each time. A little goes a long way!

 

Honey

Used as part of a daily skincare regime, honey helps prevent skin aging, heals and fades scars and can also clear up acne. Rub into your face like a moisturiser and leave on for a good 20 minutes before washing off. Not only will it give you a natural glow, it will also leave your skin feeling super soft!

 

Egg Whites & Corn flour

For a DIY cleanser, mix together cornflour and egg whites into a paste and apply to your skin. You can also add a little bit of chamomile oil. This mix will give your skin a deep cleanse and although the combination may seem odd, it’s a great way to get rid of any dirt left on your skin. Try this once every few days for a really deep cleanse.

 

Oatmeal, Banana and Honey

To achieve naturally glowing skin, try mixing together 1/4 cup of oatmeal with 1/2 a banana and a teaspoonful of honey. Mix together to form a smooth consistency and apply to your face for 15 minutes, then wash off with a warm washcloth.  Try this once a week for a great natural moisturiser that will leave your skin glowing.
